I recreated a time over quarantine when I wanted to escape my house and the mental space that I was in. In the stop motion animation, I narrated a scene of looking up at my window when laying down. Only at this position, I can see this slimmer of the sky peeking above my neighbor's wall. However, the sky is invisible when I look directly at the window. The animation is installed at a tilted high position to mimic that view.

The animation illustrates my looping train of thought of wanting to escape and being restricted in an abstract manner. The blinds in the window escape the restriction of the white wall and then get trapped inside again. I drew each frame on a window at my boarding high school in Michigan. When making this piece, I have already “escaped” from that physical and mental space. The window that I’m animating on suggests that I’m looking back through a lens at a distance.
